Within the span of a year my home state of Kentucky experienced a massive tornado outbreak (one of which missed my house by about a mile) followed several months later by historic flooding on the other side of the state. The death toll between the two events was in the hundreds. I was hired by The Washington Post and the New York Times to document the damage, and the people left to clean up and start anew.
